It is interesting to think about the difference between successful and unsuccessful people. What really is the difference? What makes some people successful while others remain stuck and become slaves to their circumstances?
There really is no obvious factor for success; it’s not age, gender, race, income levels, country of birth, where you were born, who your parents were, or which college you graduated from. There are successful people of every age group, every gender, every race, and every type of background in this world.
What sets them apart though is that every single one of these individuals were willing to work hard for their success. These are the people who refused to give up, who kept at it even when everyone around them was sure they would fail. 99% percent of the population gives up when the going gets too hard, successful people just work harder.
The great thing about success is that it is definitely not genetic, so it’s not one of those things that you either born with, or born without. The best part is that we can create our own success just as millions of people around the world have already done. We simply need to be willing to do the work and to follow the six principles outlined in this podcast.
- Seeing Challenges as Opportunities:
- Action vs. Apathy
- Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zones
- Developing a Motivated Mind-set
- The Amazing Power of Persistence
- Sense of Humour
1.Seeing Challenges as Opportunities
Do you love challenges or do you hate them? Successful people recognise challenges for what they are – opportunities to achieve bigger and better things. Challenges are really opportunities in disguise; opportunities to grow and develop, to become stronger, to test ourselves and our faith in our abilities and the universe. The next time you get a challenge, don’t think of it as an obstacle, and think instead of it as a demand for you to try harder. The biggest challenge often is to choose a positive mindset when faced with obstacles and then to take it one step at a time.
2.Action vs. Apathy
We all have those days, when we just want to stay in bed, turn of the lights and not deal with life. This happens to everyone, even the presidents of countries. However, sometimes this may happen a little too frequently, and then it becomes a problem. This is when we begin to feel powerless, and this turns into defeat and often despair.
The truth is that it is all in your head, and when you begin to feel powerless in one situation, it slowly creeps into all the other aspects of your life. One way to get rid of the apathy is to do the opposite and take action, no matter how small that action might be. Another way is to marshal the troops and put in a massive amount of energy into propelling yourself forward in the direction you want your life to take.
3.Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zones
There will always be something that we fear in our lives, however many of us develop fears about things that stop us from achieving success. Like fear of failure and fear of rejection. We all have comfort zone or boundaries between what makes us feel comfortable and what makes us feel uncomfortable. Truly successful people, endeavour to consistently step outside their comfort zones in order to tackle the things that hinder their success.
4.Developing a Motivated Mind-set
Sometimes we all find ourselves unmotivated and disinterested in doing the things that we need to do in order to achieve our goals. When this happens follow the following steps to help you get back on track:
- Take a time out and recharge your batteries
- Get inspired, read something motivational, or visit a museum or go for a walk in a park somewhere
- Get excited about the things you want to achieve, and the things that you have planned to do
- Take baby steps and do something tiny to begin the project that is overwhelming you. Break down larger projects into smaller ones and tackle them one at a time
- Reward yourself from time to time .
5.The Amazing Power of Persistence
We often give up when we seem to be making no progress towards our goals. Successful people realise that when the going gets tough, the tough really do get going and that persistence truly is one of the keys to success. With our true goals, our deepest desires, there is no giving up, the alternative is simply unacceptable. We may have to work at it our entire lives, but we cannot give up, it’s just too important to us.
